Drylining Gillingham

Gillingham Drylining FAQ

Can ceilings be dry lined?

Yes. Dry-lined ceilings are the standard approach for both new build and renovation in Gillingham. Three main ceiling systems:

1. Direct fix: 9.5mm or 12.5mm plasterboard mechanically fixed to ceiling joists. Fastest and cheapest, suitable for most domestic ceilings.

2. MF (metal frame) suspended ceiling: galvanised steel framework suspended on hangers from the structural ceiling, with plasterboard fixed to the frame. Allows for services (M&E, ventilation) to be run in the void, gives a perfectly flat finish.

3. Lay-in grid suspended ceiling: exposed T-bar grid with acoustic or decorative tiles. Standard for commercial fit-outs, offices, retail.

Key Gillingham ceiling applications:

- Gillingham apartment ceilings (often require acoustic treatment for Part E) - Commercial office ceilings in Gillingham - Loft conversion ceilings (insulated to Part L) - Basement and cellar conversions - Existing ceiling upgrades where the old plaster is blown

For fire-rated ceilings (garage ceilings, separating floors in flats), 12.5mm or 15mm Type F plasterboard gives 30-60 minute fire resistance.
